It is an exciting time with regards to parks and open spaces in Hounslow. As part of the S106 and CIL programme parks have been awarded over GBP 2m in the last 2 years. You will liaise with key stakeholders including friends of parks, Councillors and other community groups to implement several capital investment projects, which are currently being delivered.
You will also be working with local residents, volunteers, Councillors and other stakeholders to develop key strategies, such as the allotment and cemetery strategy, in partnership with Green Space Lampton360, a newly developed Council's own trading company who are managing Hounslow's parks and open spaces on behalf of the Council, ensuring services meet the needs of the community. With your talents, you'll negotiate programmes that are innovative and appropriate.
The Council is embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise the way we work and reduce our carbon footprint. We will be moving to a new landmark building in 2019 located in Hounslow town centre, and our new technology will enable staff to work remotely and flexibly to improve the service we provide to residents and to help our staff achieve a better work/life balance. About The Team
Day-to-day, you'll be supporting the Head of Parks and Sport Development and working very closely with other projects managers within the team and GS360 management team to advice on best practice and innovation in the management of parks and open spaces.
Key Responsibilities
1. To be an active member of the Parks Development team responsible and accountable for the effective development, management and delivery of the council's parks and open spaces improvement programme to include capital projects and service improvements.
2. To identify and provide leadership, planning and monitoring on parks improvement projects to ensure the delivery of the council's vision and objectives to increase access to parks services throughout the borough.
3. To oversee all aspects of the project using planning, monitoring and controlling processes in accordance with corporate policy and best practice project management techniques.
4. To work with key stakeholders, Councillors, local residents and the voluntary sector in improving service quality and promoting creative and innovative ways of tackling local problems, particularly looking at developing strategies such as the allotment and cemetery strategy to meet the needs of our community and our users.
Your Skills
1. Project management skills.
2. You should be capable of developing wide-ranging plans, solving problems and managing complex programmes of work with often competing priorities.
3. Looking for strong communication and change management skills, with a high level of initiative.
4. You should be able to develop partnerships and relate to different stakeholders.
Essential for the Role
1. This calls for a relevant degree (or equivalent) and a project management qualification (or equivalent experience).
2. Ideally, the candidate should have extensive experience in working in parks and open spaces.
This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
